An L-shaped, 18th-century weavers’ cottage in one of the oldest hamlets in Saddleworth. It’s full of character, with original features and mullion windows throughout. The cafés, restaurants, bars and shops of Uppermill are 10 minutes’ walk away, and open moorland starts on the doorstep.
Warm by the fire
The cosy lounge has an Aga wood-burning stove set in the original fireplace, and oak floors.
A kitchen for real cooking
The dining kitchen has exposed beams and rustic floor tiles. It comes with a range cooker, dishwasher, SMEG fridge, microwave, toaster, kettle, blender, double ceramic sink and a bean-to-cup coffee machine.
Sleep well
The main bedroom has a king-size bed, a feature fireplace and an open beamed ceiling. The second bedroom has its own shower room and can be made up as a double or a twin. The main bathroom has a bath with an overhead shower.
A haven of peace
A decked garden with a gazebo for eating outside. The cottage is tucked away with no passing traffic, so it’s private and wonderfully peaceful.
Before you book
Good to know
- Getting to the door: the cottage is along an unmade lane that’s uneven, with potholes and no street lights, so bring a torch after dark (the area by the cottage is lit). There’s a paved slope and four steps up to the front door, with no level access.
- Inside: steep stairs lead to both bedrooms and both bathrooms, and the garden is up a short stepped path. It may not suit anyone who finds stairs difficult. There’s more detail in our accessibility statement.
- Sleeps four adults at most. The hamlet is quiet, so the cottage isn’t suitable for parties.
- Well-behaved dogs are welcome: £20 per stay for extra cleaning. The garden isn’t enclosed, so dogs shouldn’t be left outside on their own.
- The second bedroom is made up on request: £20 per stay for extra laundry.
- Parking: one allocated space less than a minute’s walk away, plus free on-street parking nearby. There’s no parking right outside.
- Also in the cottage: washing machine, tumble dryer, wifi, TV with Netflix and Amazon Prime, digital radio and a Bluetooth speaker.
- A high chair, stair gate and travel cot are available on request.
- Tea, coffee and a fresh pint of Saddleworth milk are waiting when you arrive.
