The Lounge

The lounge at Pots & Pans Cottage is cosy and comfortable, with a low ceiling and mullion windows overlooking the garden so that you can observe the goings on at the bird feeder. The centrepiece of the lounge is the Aga wood burning stove located in an original inglenook, the floor is polished oak.

The lounge has a TV with Netflix, Amazon Prime etc and is also where the wifi box is located that services the whole house. A sofa and two large comfortable armchairs are ample space to relax. The stairs that lead from the lounge are lined with vintage photographs of Myanmar (Burma) and Uppermill. The lounge walls are decorated in colourful original African artwork, and the Congolese Bantu Chief sits contemplatively by the fire.

In early 2018 Saddleworth was hit hard by a massive snowstorm called “The beast from the East”. Many of the roads were impassable to the extent that some people were forced to spend the night in their cars up on the M62 in sub-zero temperatures! Our guests at the time, who had travelled to the UK from America, were well and truly snowed in for a couple of days!

“Getting snowed in during “the beast from the east” was challenging but what a lovely place to be stuck.”

They told me that despite the inconvenience, sitting in front of the log-burner in our cosy lounge and watching the snow falling outside was a wonderful break from their work in Manchester, and had a wonderful stay. They gave us a five-star review!
