This is a lovely and welcoming cottage, relaxing to be in, with a cosy sitting room, and excellently equipped kitchen (a joy to cook on the range cooker). The king size bed has a comfortable memory foam mattress, and there are tranquil views of the trees, and the squirrels, to wake up to. The cottage is tucked away on the edge of Uppermill but it’s only a few minutes walk to a whole range of small independent shops, not to mention a good Co-Op which is open every day till late. Good bread at Oliviccio and the Wine Vault (Saturdays). Our favourite cups of coffee were at the Lime Kiln café on the canal by Brownhill Nature Reserve, Station Brew in Greenfield, and at Wooly Knit a mile along the canal in Diggle. It is a lovely area for walking, footpaths everywhere. There is the canal and old railway line if you want flat. If you want up, walk directly from the cottage onto Pots and Pans and the Oldham Way. Or for a grand day out – to Dovestones reservoir, up to Chew Reservoir then along the ridge via Foxstone and Trinnacle back down via Greenfield and Yeoman Hey reservoirs. Whilst we were at the cottage it snowed: we and the dog warmed up quickly after icy walks, snug around the stove in the sitting room. Also crucial: our wet boots and jackets dried quickly!
