Dogs at the Whit Hart Inn

Bringing Dogs to the Cottage

Pots & Pans Cottage is a dog-friendly cottage, and well-behaved dogs are very welcome to stay. We charge a £20 fee for dogs to stay, this covers any additional cleaning required. All we ask is that you don’t allow your dogs to sit on the furniture or beds. The garden of the cottage is not secure, therefore inquisitive dogs shouldn’t be left outside unattended. The cottage is, however, perfectly located to access plenty of dog walking opportunities around Uppermill and Saddleworth.

With miles of moorland and a plethora of pathways upon which to perambulate, Saddleworth is the perfect place to bring your dogs on holiday

Dogs are an integral part of life in Saddleworth and many pubs and cafés in the area welcome dogs.

Two fabulous local pubs that are in easy walking distance of the cottage and that welcome dogs are the Cross Keys and the Church Inn, they have lovely outdoor seating areas with fabulous views. The White Inn at Lydgate (pictured) is also dog-friendly, it’s a little further away (1-hour walk, or 10 minutes drive) but it is a great pub and worth a visit.

Two lovely local cafes that welcome dogs are the Limekiln Cafe on the canal in Uppermill and Grandpa Greene’s Ice Cream Parlour on the canal in Diggle. Grandpa Greene’s have two large dog-friendly terraces which are fully heated & covered; they even have a dog menu!

If you are out and about in Saddleworth with your dog, please keep them on a lead, especially if you are taking public footpaths across farmland where sheep are present. You will see plenty of sheep in the hills up above the cottage and at Dovestones Reservoir. Even if your dog is normally calm and obedient they should not be allowed to run loose around livestock. Every year sheep are killed, injured and miscarry after being chased or attacked by normally placid dogs.

keep dogs on a lead at lambing time

Please be aware that during Lambing season if you are out and about with your dog in the fields around Saddleworth please make sure to keep your dogs on a lead and take extra care when using public footpaths across farmland.

Thanks!
