With COVID19 restrictions still in place for the foreseeable future, the government advice to “STAY HOME” remains the best course of action to survive the current pandemic and stay safe.
Thankfully many Saddleworth businesses are working hard to support the local community and provide their services. I’ve put together a list of fresh food shops, cafe’s and restaurants that are serving the local community during the lockdown, this is far from a complete list, (it’s a work in progress) so if you are aware of any anomalies or omissions please let me know, and I’ll update this.
Local businesses need our support even more during these tough times, don’t forget #shoplocal and let’s try to make sure they are all still around when all this is over! Obviously, and this goes without saying, please stay at home and only go out for essential trips, please practice social distancing and please don’t go out if you are feeling unwell!

Newly opened and already making quite a stir in the local community, Pots, Pans & Pizza (no relation to us!) are taking orders for freshly-made traditional pizzas for collection. Their pizzas are very reasonably priced, they have eight different pizzas, and the word on the street is that their Bee Sting Pizza is the Bee’s Knees! They even have a make-your-own pizza at home pack and they are getting rave reviews on Facebook. If you want to support a new and local business and are desperate for a traditional Italian style pizza then give them a whirl. Be warned they do have limited capacity for orders and sell out regularly so first come first served. Good old reliable Shalimar! They’re Uppermill’s only Indian restaurant and have been around as long as I can remember. They’ve recently opened back up to meet the needs of the community, and are offering a delivery or collection service on their takeaway menu. They are open Mon – Thurs 5 pm – 10 pm, Fri – Sat 5 pm – 11 pm and Sun 4 pm – 9 pm and you can place your order by telephone on 01457 872576. Checkout their takeaway menu on their website
This local business has been supporting the local Saddleworth community non-stop throughout the COVID19 pandemic. They provide a meal delivery service Tuesday to Friday and also offer Sunday lunches. They offer a range of pies, incredible roast dinners, cakes and even provide all crockery! They are getting some amazing reviews online. Hei Hei’s are back up and running and meeting the needs of the local Saddleworth community for tasty Thai and Chinese cuisine during the COVID19 crisis. Located on the High Street in Uppermill, they are offering a click and collect service or delivery service. Check out their menu and easy to use online ordering system They are open Tuesday – Sunday 4.30 pm – 9.30 pm.
Dobcross based Square Meals are offering a weekly set menu of home-cooked meals made from locally sourced fresh ingredients. They deliver locally for free. Check out their Facebook page for the latest menu offering and order details
Diggle Chippy
Diggle Chippy is back in action (yeah!) they are frying at lunch and dinner on Thursdays and Fridays (11.30 am – 1.30 pm and 4 pm – 7.30 pm) and they are following a strict one in one out policy. You can find Diggle Chippy on the main road in Diggle. They’ve got a slightly shortened menu, but still offering fresh fish, chips, Holland’s pies and puddings, rag pudding, sausage, chicken nuggets, cheese, peas, gravy, curry, muffins, cans! What a good do!
Weaver & Wilde on the High Street in Uppermill will be reopening for takeaway coffee, cake and grocery essentials from Wednesday 13th May. If you are out on your daily exercise or popping into Uppermill for some essential shopping, then stop by and say hi! They’ll be open 9 am – 4 pm (closed Tuesdays).
Diggle Lock has a number of boxes of essential food items and groceries available to order for collection or delivery they also do a Saturday night take out meal that includes Fish and Chips, a range of pies and even booze! Check out their Facebook page for more details.
Scóna are delivering Afternoon Tea on Saturdays. This includes a selection of freshly prepared sandwiches, freshly baked cakes, freshly baked scones, raspberry jam, and clotted cream all for £15 per person. You can even add a bottle of Prosecco for an extra £16. You can order your Afternoon Tea by visiting their online shop.
Grandpa Greene’s are also offering Afternoon tea for £15 with deliveries available every weekend. They’ve also got Prossecco and their fabulous ice cream available to order online. They deliver between 8 am and 3 pm every weekend.
The Navigation in Dobcross is serving a decent range of very reasonably priced Chilled Ready Meals for delivery on Fridays and Saturdays, these include Cheese and onion pie, Fish pie, Chicken curry, Tandoori Paneer Masala, Chicken Thai red curry, and Lamb Moussaka. They’re also serving hot kebabs! On a Wednesday evening, they are serving up a proper chippy tea with Haddock and Chips, Jumbo Sausage, or Home Made Suet Pudding. They’ve even got mushy peas and curry sauce! They even offer gluten-free Fish and chips! Head to their website for more details.
The heartbeat of Uppermill is back! Serving takeaways from 8 am -4 pm Thursday to Sunday, Cafe Grande Abaco is open. They are serving a limited menu that includes coffee, croissants, bacon bagels, wine, cakes, and more! Great to have them back open again! They’ve put in a one-way system that can support the social distancing guidelines, so please ensure you follow the signs when you pop in to say hello!

Oliviccio in the High Street in Uppermill is an independent delicatessen jam-packed with a wide array of products. During the COVID19 crisis, they are operating restricted opening hours Wed-Sat 10 am – 2 pm. They do have a very comprehensive online shop and offer a delivery service, find out more details at their online shop.
Alimentari Di Alberti Greengrocers
This family-run independent greengrocer sells a wide selection of fruit and vegetables, many of which are sourced from local growers, with a specific focus on quality and seasonality. They are open and following a strict one in one out policy, and you can also order specially selected fruit and vegetable boxes for collection at £10, £15, £20 (deliveries are only available for the most vulnerable). Health Honey on Chew Valley Road in Greenfield has a range of juices and cakes and snacks available for collection or delivery. Find out more on their Facebook page.
Albion Farmshop on Oldham Road just outside of Delph has a massive range of fresh food items available for collection (deliveries are available for the most vulnerable) including locally sourced meats, vegetable boxes, meal packs and luxury items. They can even put together a Cream Tea with scones, clotted cream and jam! The cows are still producing milk up in the hills in Dobcross and John and his team are still delivering milk across Saddleworth under all circumstances: rain, snow, and worldwide pandemics! They have milk, free-range eggs, fruit juices, and even Longley farm yoghurts. Head to their website to place your order.
Although the shop is closed, the Wine Vault is still open for deliveries to the local community. They have an absolutely massive selection of carefully selected wines and spirits to choose from, and you can check out their offering on their website and order online.
The fabulous Donkeystone Brewery in Greenfield has put together an incredible range of products on offer for delivery to the Saddleworth community. You’ll need to download their easy to use app to make orders, but they are offering free delivery of their beautiful beers as well as a selection of wines, spirits, dairy, bread, and meats. Their additional products are sourced from local suppliers so you can be guaranteed to be supporting the local business community if you shop with Donkeystone.
